So You’ve Seen Hamilton: A Reading List

Since it hit the off-Broadway stage in 2015, Hamilton has continued to inspire a love of history and musical theatre for teens across the nation. In the wake of Covid-19 and cancellations of the award winning musical in St. Louis and beyond, this July, users of the streaming platform Disney+ are ecstatic to all be “in the room where it happens” as they stream the highly anticipated official Broadway recording. Whether you are someone who is watching it on repeat already or someone who has to “wait for it” when you visit your friend’s house for a watch party, here are some titles available for checkout so that you can be “satisfied.”

Shanon Barton works in Youth Services at the Kirkwood Public Library. She started volunteering for KPL when she was in 7th grade and loves that she gets to work there as her “real adult job.” When not hanging out in the stacks at work, she can be found at home watching Netflix, eating pizza rolls, and planning themed events with friends. If you catch her with her nose in a book, it will most likely be a YA historical fiction novel with some sprinkling of supernatural or magical elements.
