To honor the upcoming 150th anniversary of St. Louis State Hospital, the book features a pictorial account of the history of the patients and staff. This book-length work describes the evolution of mental health care in St. Louis. The author has been the librarian and archivist at St. Louis State Hospital for the last four years. During this time, she discovered long forgotten archival material tucked away in the nooks and crannies of the iconic dome building at 5400 Arsenal. This material is a treasure trove of historic photographs, letters, documents, and details that tell the story of this St. Louis institution. The book also documents the evolution of mental health care but also the growth of St. Louis itself.
