Book Tasting for Banned Books Week

October 1, 2023 October 7, 2023

The rectangular image has a creamy background. In the upper lefthand corner is a Kirkwood Public Library logo and in the upper right hand corner is a Kirkwood Public Library logo that says "You are always welcome here." The text just below in Red print says "Book Tasting" then below in black print it says "October 1st - 7th" "In the library magazine area" " A banned books week celebration." There is then an image of a nice bamboo placement with nice silverware and a plate. With a stack of vintage looking books in different colors on top of the plate.

Curious about why some books get banned or challenged? Did you know that books like The Bluest Eye, The Kite Runner, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Holy Bible were among the most challenged books in the 2010 – 2019 decade? Take part in our book tasting from October 1st – October 7th during Banned Books Week. Books will be available in the magazine area.

What is a book tasting? During Banned Books Week, we’ll have challenged/banned books on display in the magazine area. They won’t be available for checkout, but for you to look at in the library, read reviews, read the back cover, and read a couple chapters you select. We’ll have book tasting notes available for you to write your perceptions. Totally challenged by a book or changed your mind? Head to the Reference desk and select which book challenged you the most. Really want to dig into one of the books? Checkout another copy and take your tasting notes home with you.
