The Kirkwood Public Library & the Kirkwood Human Rights Commission will once again co-host a program featuring author Bobby Bostic. Bostic, who was sentenced to 241 years in prison in 1997 for non-homicide offenses which he committed in St. Louis when he was 16, was paroled in November 2022 with the aid of the judge who sentenced him and advocated for his release at his parole board hearing. While in prison he got his GED, took numerous college courses, and published books about his life as a teenage gang member, and the Missouri prison system. He will read from his new memoir, Humbled to the Dust: Still I Rise which recounts his journey from the streets of north St. Louis to prison and his dramatic evolution while incarcerated. He also describes his post-prison life adjusting to freedom in a world with dramatic differences to the one he left in the mid 1990’s.
